This is my first effort to write poem in Thamizh. Felt it was best to share it, cuz i personally love this one. I wrote it during a beautiful afternoon in 2007, when Coimbatore was at its best with a light rain, just outside my window.
Its about a guy singing to his lover..the rain.
kaadhalai kuda kaatrai madhikum ikkalathil..
mazhai'eh! ne en unmai kaadhal adi..!
(In this period, when love is valuable only as a passing wind,
Rain, u r my true love, my girl!)
sottum mazhai'ilum, un madi'il kedapean
moochi muttum varai, un sottu muttha'thai sumapean.
(I will lie on your lap even thru dripping rain. Will take your rain droplets as kisses even when its breath-taking)
veyil kaindhu kidakirean, un varugai edhir parkirean,
veesum kaatril un vaasam illai adi,un manadhil naan illai adi !
(I'm parched in the sun, awaiting your arrival,
but there is no Earthy fragrance in the blowing wind, which means I'm not in your heart!)
imaigal sumai'agi, vizhigal irul'agindrane...
Satt'endru ne idi thudithai, en kannithil oru thuli ittai..!
(My eyelashes are now burden, my vision is darkening...
And all of a sudden you become alert and with a thunder, send a drop of rain to my cheek!!)
Adhu un muttham'oh..illai un thandanai'oh..
"Ennai marandhu ena urakkam?" endraye ne...!
(I dont know whether it was meant as a kiss or a slap,
"How can you sleep forgetting all about me??" says, she)
Ofcourse, the english translations are creating a havoc to the poem, anyways, serves a purpose. Hope u enjoyed :)
